Japan, Edo period, 19th century
Of elongated, gently arched form with rounded corners, with silk braided cord and spherical ojime
Decorated in gold, red and black lacquer with hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirikane, hirame and togidashi-e
The exterior with a continuous courtly landscape extending across the cases, depicting a gosho-guruma (court carriage) partially concealed amid vegetation, beneath cherry blossom branches, by undulating banks and a flowing river
The composition continuing along the sides, dominated by flowering branches reaching over the water
The interiors in nashiji and the rims in fundame
