Description

A collaborative album by the Dong family (董氏一门书画集锦册)

China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century

The album bound with wooden covers and a calligraphed title label

Comprising paintings and calligraphies in ink and light colours on paper

With compositions of flowers, fruits, birds, bamboo, blossoming plum branches and a river landscape, alternating with leaves of calligraphy in regular (kaishu) and cursive (xingshu) script

One leaf inscribed "after the life-sketching method of Xinluo Shanren" (仿新罗山人写生法), referring to Hua Yan (1682–1756)

Several leaves signed and sealed by the artists, with cyclical dates dingchou (1817) and jiazi (1864), attesting to the collaborative and generational nature of the album



董启(1772–1844)等 董氏一门书画集锦册 中国,清十九世纪 木面装裱册页,水墨设色纸本,绘花卉、果实、翎毛、竹石、梅枝及山水,间以楷书、行书题跋;一开自题「仿新罗山人写生法」,多开署款钤印,并见丁丑(1817)、甲子(1864)干支纪年,足证家族数代合璧之雅集。
