Additional Information
Illustrating what is possibly one of most beautiful and accomplished creations of the Arts of the Table by the Sèvres manufacture, this shell saucer finds its place amongst the most exceptional productions of its period, from which stand out the dinner set commissioned by Madame du Barry in 1770, or the set created for King Louis XVI.
The shell is also present in the set gifted by King Louis XVI to Archduke Ferdinand of Austria.
At present we can find, amongst others, one example at the Palace of Versailles collection, another in the Musée des Arts Decoratifs, in Paris, this one originating from the birds set by Buffon (1784), which belonged to count Moïse de Camondo, still another at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and a last one belonging to the Royal Collection Trust in the Green Dining Room in Windsor Castle
