Description

Of tapering ovoid “fuseau” form, raised on a piedouche foot
Decorated against a lilac ground with two hexagonal reserves finely painted with floral bouquets, framed by gilt borders and a garland of purple foliage
The flanks adorned with symmetrical floral trophies in purple camaïeu, with crossed cornucopias and pendant foliate motifs
The flaring, bell-shaped neck enriched with elaborate gilt decoration of palmettes, scrolls and further gilt foliate ornament on the lilac ground
With incised mark for Charles-Louis Descoins

Additional Information

Factory records indicate that examples of this “fuseau” model, with lilac and burgos grounds, entered the Sèvres magasin de vente on 23 Vendémiaire Year XIII (23 October 1804), described as “2 vases Fuseau fond lilas et burgos bouquets de fleurs”, with a selling price of 150 francs. Surviving documents also record the individual production costs, including the gilding by Charles-Marie Pierre Boitel, the floral painting by Nicolas Sinesson, and the amounts paid for the coloured grounds and decorative elements.
