Of naturalistic butterfly form in Canton painted enamel on copper
With hinged lids formed by the wings, opening to reveal small shaped compartments, including an inkwell
The upper wings painted with spirals, volutes and stylised motifs in pink, blue, purple and yellow on a pale ground, the segmented body finely rendered in grisaille
The lobed sides profusely decorated with scrolling flowers
The interior of the wings similarly enamelled with spirals and polychrome motifs
(wear to enamels, minor chips and restorations)
