Description
China, Qing Dynasty, 18th/19th century
Of circular concave form, in painted enamel on copper with metal rim
With profuse millefleurs decoration on a royal-blue ground, depicting peonies, chrysanthemums, prunus blossoms, peaches and various other flowers and fruit amid scrolling tendrils and foliage
The centre with a shou longevity medallion in red on an 'imperial-yellow' ground, framed by a reserve composed of five stylised bats in tones of green and pink
The inner rim finished with a band of ruyi motifs
The reverse decorated with concentric tiers of lotus petals in tones of green, turquoise and pink on a gilt ground

清十八/十九世纪 广珐琅蓝地万花纹大盘,中心绘红彩寿字纹,外环五蝠捧寿,缠枝花卉间饰牡丹、菊花、梅花及桃实等,内沿饰如意纹一周,背面金地绘多重莲瓣纹。

Note:
The five bats (wufu) framing the central medallion represent the "Five Blessings": longevity, wealth, health, love of virtue and a serene death. Together with the shou (longevity) character, they compose a decorative programme of profound auspicious meaning in the Chinese tradition.
