This set was commissioned by Prince D.Pedro, later King Pedro III, uncle and husband to Queen Maria I. The prince was the 16th Prior of Crato the highest position in Portugal of the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem (Knights of Malta).
