Description

China, Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644

Of imposing scale, carved in wood with traces of polychrome pigment in blue, ochre and red tones, and remains of gilding

Depicted seated in the posture of royal ease, lalitasana, upon a lotus base, with the left leg pendant and the right drawn up

The serene face with downcast eyes and gently smiling lips conveying an expression of meditative calm

With an elaborate tiara retaining traces of gilding crowning the high chignon and long pendants framing the face

The torso adorned with beaded necklaces and a pectoral ornament in relief, over ample flowing robes bound by ornamental beaded sashes, falling in naturalistic folds that cascade over the seat and extend beyond the base

The left hand raised in karana mudra, the gesture of warding off evil and dispelling obstacles, and the right hand extended palm upward, holding a lotus flower

中国明代(1368-1644)木雕彩绘观音坐像,体量宏伟。观音以游戏坐姿端坐于莲座之上,左手结羯磨印,右手托莲花,面容慈祥,宝冠高耸,璎珞庄严,衣纹流畅自然,存蓝、赭、红彩及描金痕迹。
