The ends of the handles representing six Florentine related motifs: the lily of Florence, the lion holding the lily, the Medici crest, the child with the dolphin by Verrocchio, The Republic of Volterra crest griffin from the Medici Chapel, a dragon with human figure taken from miniature representing Urban VI's papacy
