Among these are the “Three Friends of Winter”, pine, bamboo and prunus, associated with perseverance and renewal. In the first half of the 18th century, the Chantilly manufactory, founded under the patronage of Louis Henri de Bourbon, Prince of Condé and collector of Japanese porcelain, adapted these models to soft-paste porcelain. In the 19th century, Samson revived this repertoire in hard paste, producing reproductions and reinterpretations, at times with marks imitating those of Chantilly.
