Rinpa is distinguished by its lavish use of gold and silver leaf, the decorative stylisation of natural motifs, and the evocation of the classical aesthetic of the Heian court. K\u014drin was awarded the honorary Buddhist title of hokky\u014d in 1701, thereafter signing his works \"Hokky\u014d K\u014drin\", as seen on the present screen.<br \/>\r<br \/>\r\nAmong his most celebrated compositions are precisely the chrysanthemum screens set beside flowing streams, a subject that became emblematic of the school and was repeatedly taken up by his followers throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including Ogata Kenzan, Watanabe Shik\u014d, Tatebayashi Kagei, and, during the so-called Edo Rinpa revival, Sakai H\u014ditsu and Suzuki Kiitsu.<br \/>\r<br \/>\r\nThe practice of executing works in the manner of K\u014drin, reproducing his established compositions and affixing his signature and seal, should not be understood as forgery in the modern sense, but rather as an act of homage and an affirmation of artistic lineage, a current and fully legitimised practice within the Rinpa tradition. Screens of this kind, produced by painters of the school across the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, stand today as important testimonies to the continuity and vitality of one of the most influential currents in Japanese art."}],"gallery":[{"image":{"ID":371678,"id":371678,"title":"159_138","filename":"138-scaled.jpg","filesize":651672,"url":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-scaled.jpg","link":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/en\/lot\/biombo-de-seis-folhas-1028803187\/159_138\/","alt":"","author":"44","description":"","caption":"","name":"159_138","status":"inherit","uploaded_to":370716,"date":"2026-04-27 20:24:31","modified":"2026-04-27 20:24:40","menu_order":0,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","type":"image","subtype":"jpeg","icon":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-includes\/images\/media\/default.png","width":2560,"height":1245,"sizes":{"thumbnail":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-150x150.jpg","thumbnail-width":150,"thumbnail-height":150,"medium":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-scaled.jpg","medium-width":300,"medium-height":146,"medium_large":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-scaled.jpg","medium_large-width":768,"medium_large-height":374,"large":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-scaled.jpg","large-width":1024,"large-height":498,"1536x1536":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-1536x747.jpg","1536x1536-width":1536,"1536x1536-height":747,"2048x2048":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-2048x996.jpg","2048x2048-width":2048,"2048x2048-height":996,"v_medium":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-640x311.jpg","v_medium-width":640,"v_medium-height":311,"gform-image-choice-sm":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-scaled.jpg","gform-image-choice-sm-width":300,"gform-image-choice-sm-height":146,"gform-image-choice-md":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-scaled.jpg","gform-image-choice-md-width":400,"gform-image-choice-md-height":195,"gform-image-choice-lg":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/138-scaled.jpg","gform-image-choice-lg-width":600,"gform-image-choice-lg-height":292}},"is_video":false,"video_source":"","video_id":"","use_video_thumbnail":true}]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/lot\/370717","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/lot"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/lot"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/371678"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=370717"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/veritas.art\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=370717"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
