The iconography \u2013 Franciscan arms crossed beneath the cross, the INRI motto and the Five Wounds of Christ \u2013 corresponds to the heraldic repertoire used by the Franciscans and the Third Order, documented both in liturgical objects and pieces for conventual use.<br \/>\r\nThe strong Franciscan presence in Portugal and their missionary activity overseas fostered the production in China of personalised porcelain with devotional emblems. Similar bottles are known in Portuguese collections, some also associated with the Order.
