\r\n(slight wear to gilt decoration)","additional_info":[{"title":"Additional Information","text":"The so-called 'trumpeters' pattern forms part of a rare group of black-ground pieces executed in China for the Western market around 1740. The decorative motif, featuring two figures in Ottoman-inspired costume, has sometimes been attributed to Cornelis Pronk (1691\u20131759) or his circle. Although this design does not appear in the official records of commissions made by the VOC, it may correspond to a special commission, possibly a private order through the Company. Comparable examples are found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, Mus\u00e9e Royal de Mariemont, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Zeeuws Museum, Mottahedeh Collection and Renato Albuquerque Collection. Among known examples there are slight variations in the composition of the gilt friezes.
