Soares dos Reis: “O ARTISTA NA INFÂNCIA”

The treatment of the body resembles that of the ancient nudes, but this work presents other formal and conceptual aspects, which carry inexplicable emotions, a characteristic close to the Romantic spirit of the 19th century. (…) In fact, it is largely due to the indefinable expression of the young artist’s smile, situated between boldness and satisfaction, that the representation’s enigmatic effect and its exceptional character are owed to it.
