Additional Information

Art born in the streets finds its natural context and audience in public
space. Its integration into the Portuguese circuit of galleries and
museums owes a lot to Alexandre Farto aka Vhils. His signature-works
are the large-scale faces that he creates on walls by a meticulous carving
method and the visages he produces from posters he collects from
the streets and which he subjects to a thorough cutting and the recomposition
process.
His latest individual exhibitions include: ‘Dissecção’, Museu da
Electricidade, Lisbon (2014); and ‘Fragmentos’, Clark Art Center, Rio
de Janeiro (2013). Group exhibitions and festivals include the Urban
Xchange Festival, Butterworth, Malasya (2015), ‘Phytology’, Bethnal
Green Nature Reserve, London (2014), ‘Nuit blanche’, Paris; Walk&Talk
Festival, Rabo de Peixe, Azores, Portugal; NuArt Festival, Stavanger,
Norway; Mural Arts Program, Philadelphia; ‘Made in Oaxaca’, Museo de
Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, Mexico (all 2013).
