Description

White and gilt silver
Decorative bands framed central medallion of three mast ship with blown sails and flying flags, encircled respectively by undulating line, tendril and stylized foliage and raised undulating fluting and trefoils
The centre is profusely decorated with repousse and chiselled grape, vine and foliage motifs on a punctured ground, highlighting a chiaroscuro contrast, and identical undulating fluting and dotted outer edge
Plain gilt rim band extending to the reverse surface
Raised on a cylindrical and truncated conical gilt silver foot of repousse and chiselled foliage decoration identical to the band encircling the salver central medallion
Unmarked, in compliance with Decree-Law 120/2017, art. 2º, nº.2 C
Attributable to the 2nd-half of the 16th century, possibly Iberian
(Some losses to lip gilding and general wear, restoration)
