Additional Information

Miguel Palma is assuredly one of the most iconoclast Portuguese artists.
Spanning media such as installation, sculpture and drawing, his work
conveys scathing comments on the art system and questions ideas of
progress and comfort associated to design and the new technologies
and disseminated by advertising. The artists often conceives mechanical,
chemical or physical systems seemingly drawn from science fiction
but showing an obsolete nature, that questions the contemporary
dictatorship of efficiency. The two works on paper presented here from
the ‘ante técnica’ (ante technical) series reveal the tension between the
bureaucratic world and the artistic gesture that interrogates it.
Palma’s most recent solo exhibitions include: ‘Synapse’, 18th Street Arts
Center, Santa Monica, California (2015); ‘Autóctone’, Museu de Arte
Popular, Lisbon (2014); ‘Miguel Palma: Un oeil dans la maison’, La Maison
de La vache qui rit, Lons-le-Saunier, France (2013); ‘Miguel Palma:
Desconforto moderno’, CGAC – Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea,
Santiago de Compostela, Spain (2013); ‘Atelier Utopia’, Fundação
EDP, Porto (2012); ‘Linha de montagem’, CAM – Fundação Calouste
Gulbenkian, Lisbon (2011); and ‘Density’, SOLAR – Galeria de Arte
Cinemática, Vila do Conde, Portugal (2011).
