Additional Information

João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva have worked together since 2001.
They belong to a group of young Portuguese artists with accentuated
international projection. Their work spans photography, 16 mm film
and installation. Readers of the writings of Heidegger, Bergson and
Nietzsche, they produce works that, despite displaying images and
codes associated with scientific experiments and the systematic
study of physical phenomena, embody the incommunicable and
incomprehensible. Such is the case with Onça geométrica 4 [Geometrical
Ounce 4].
Their most recent solo exhibitions include: ‘The Missing Hippopotamus’,
Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne (2015); ‘Papagaio’, Camden Arts Centre,
London (2015); ‘Papagaio’, Hangar Bicocca, Milan (2014); ‘Those animals
that at a distance resemble flies’, Kunsthaus Glarus, Glarus, Switzerland
(2012); ‘Since you have eaten the horse, you can travel to Rome by
donkey: On dwarf philosophy’, Kunsternernes Hus, Oslo, Norway
(2012); ‘There’s nothing more to tell because this is small, as is every
fecundation’, Museo Marino Marini, Florence (2011); ‘Alien Theory’, Frac
Île-de-France, Le Plateau, Paris (2011); and ‘Tem gwerf tem gwerf dr rr
rr’, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf (2011).
