Pedro Sousa Vieira’s heterogeneous practice spans a large number of
media, including painting, drawing, assemblage, sculpture and video.
Through the creation of synapses between images and words — the
reason why titles acquire an important role — his work constantly
interrogates the condition of the image. Koeksisters, 2013 is a clear
example of the artist’s unusual provisional combinations: the title refers
to something as prosaic as a kind of Doughnut with a braided form
while the sophisticated work of occultation of the image generates
modernist formal experiences.
‘3,99º’, at Casa Museu Nogueira da Silva, Braga, Portugal (2015); ‘Pedro
Sousa Vieira’, at Chiado 8 – Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon (2012); ‘Pedro
Sousa Vieira’, Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Guimarães, Portugal (2011); and
‘A Vision of Flying by Extending the Arms as Wings’, Museu Nogueira
da Silva, Braga, Portugal (2010) are some of Sousa Vieira’s most recent
solo exhibitions. He was awarded in 2015, the 10th edition of the Prémio
Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso.
