Print identical to the one published in Paris in 1584 in the work by André Thevet "Vies des Hommes Illustres", rare for the fact that it has no printed text.
The king is depicted as being attacked from the rear as events were reported from the Battle of El-Ksar el Kebir.
The arrows in the shield a possible allusion to the pretenders to the succession: D.Catarina, Duchess of Braganza; Filipe II, King of Spain; D.António, Prior of Crato; Emanuele Filiberto, Duke of Savoy; Ranuccio, Prince of Parma; Catherine of Medici and two unidentified English pretenders
