Additional Information
Nota:
The composition, with the eagle in the foreground perched upon angular rocks, an overhanging pine and a waterfall in the background, follows closely the models of the Kanō school, which codified this type of bird-of-prey scene (taka-e) after Chinese Ming prototypes, notably those of Lin Liang. The treatment of the plumage, with individualised feathers rendered in dense ink and soft gradations, and the drawing of the rocks with firm contours and diluted ink washes, are consistent with the production of provincial Kanō ateliers or of painters of Kanō lineage active in the late Edo period.
