Additional Information

Drawing and installation are Inês Favila’s preferred media. A counterpoint
to the excess of visual information and imagery with which we are
confronted nowadays, her works are a commentary on the growing
clarity of images in our digital world, that rarely allows the observer to
fill in the empty spaces, to imagine the whole from the fragments.
In Barbed Wire, 2011 Favila confronts us with fragments that block
access to a total and integrated view of the represented elements.
Resorting to a recurrent image in the history of art — the grid — Favila
manages to introduce perceptive doubts and to confuse notions of
figure and background, the first plane and the second.
Inês Favila has been featured in solo exhibitions at Museu Nacional de
História Natural, Sala do Veado, Lisbon (2009), and at the Museu de Arte
Contemporânea do Funchal – Forte de S. Tiago, Madeira (2004). She
participated in the 4th edition of the Prémio Amadeo de Souza Cardoso,
Amarante (2003) and in the Prémio Fidelidade Jovens Pintores, at
Culturgest, Lisbon (1997).
