Typical of documentary photography of the period, these images depict the Bello Monte area in Caracas. They were taken by Paolo Gasparini after his return to the city, following a period spent in Cuba, where he worked for the magazine Revolución and adopted the 35 mm camera format. The use of this format is closely linked to his urban photography practice, developed out of his training within the context of Italian Neorealism in the early 1950s.

These photographs belong to his production of the 1960s and 1970s, a period during which he structured much of his work in photographic series and sequences, and they exemplify his persistent focus on the ways in which architecture and advertising shape the human “habitat”.
