August III is depicted wearing Polish costume and the Orders of the Golden Fleece and of the Holy Spirit.
On the left side of the composition, above a tall back chair with his monogram is the mantle gifted by the Saxony government for his coronation.
On the right side, on a pier table, the royal symbols: crown, scepter and the orbe.
A similar painting dated of 1737 by Louis Silvestre (1696-1763) is part of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister collection, Dresden
