Additional Information

Painting constitutes the centre of Bruno Pacheco’s artistic practice,
which also includes drawing, the production of objects and video.
A constant questioning of the relationship between photography
and painting, his work is often born from photographs, newspapers,
magazines, advertising materials and images found via internet which he
integrates in a large archive together with his own images.
A short brushstroke, the exploration of the velatura and a significant
loss of definition that generates an imprecise quality in the image are
the most distinctive features of the artist’s paintings on paper, of which
Birds and Foliage, 2005 is a magnificent specimen. With photography
as a reference, the artist highlights the process of recomposing and
reframing related to the photographic transformation in pictorial
representation.
Pacheco’s latest solo exhibitions include: ‘Mar e campo em três
momentos’, Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, Cascais, Portugal (2012);
‘Uma história de amor’, Chiado 8 – Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon (2011);
‘ainda não’, Culturgest, Porto (2009); and ‘All together’, Culturgest,
Lisbon (2007). In 2005 he was awarded the Prémio União Latina.
