Description

China, Qing Dynasty, dated to the bingshen year (1896)
Of flattened, rounded rectangular form, with a flat lip and recessed foot with protruding footrim
One main side finely painted on the interior with a grouping of inscribed paper items arranged on a white ground, including an open fan decorated with goldfish among aquatic plants, a roundel with a bird on a flowering branch signed Bada Shanren (八大山人), and two ink rubbings of calligraphic inscriptions, one reproducing an excerpt from the Jiucheng Gong Liquan Ming

The reverse inscribed in regular script (kaishu) with an excerpt from the celebrated Preface to the Orchid Pavilion (蘭亭序 Lanting Xu), preceded by a dedicatory line, followed by the signature Ma Shaoxuan (馬少宣) and an oval seal in seal script
Rose quartz stopper with jadeite collar and nephrite finial
马少宣(1867-1939)水晶内画鼻烟壶佳作。一面绘金鱼团扇、八大山人花鸟小品及《九成宫醴泉铭》拓片;另面以楷书录《兰亭序》节文,落款马少宣并钤印。粉晶盖配翡翠圈及白玉顶。
