Unknown maker, Augsburg

Being the original mechanism a piece of great complexity the case bears dials for, at least, Italian system hours, Nuremberg system hours, sunset and sunrise and star position. With calendar of saints and other religious dates, also idications to determine the golden number for each year.
The dome hides the bell and shows rich pierced decoration with scrolls and hunting scenes after Virgil Solis (Nuremberg, 1514-1562). Corners decorated with winged horses and finial representing Fortune on a classical plinth.
Sides with five relief feminine figures on floral pattern ground, possibly an allegory of the five senses.
Base decorated in relief depicting procession of triumphant women after Hans Sebald Beham (Nuremberg 1500-1550).
This rich decoration explores themes as the Death and the desire of feminie power and is crowned by the figure of fortune an it can be associated with the idea of conquering the Time through rational science.
Similar examples of cases for Jeremias Metzker mechanisms are known and dated between 1563 and 1564. The same maker also worked to other clockmaker’s, such as Caspar Böheim (1568)
