Additional Information

The lacca povera technique developed as a means of imitating Oriental lacquers and Venetian lacquered decoration, spreading above all throughout the Venetian territories during the 18th century, although it was also used in other regions of Northern Italy. It consisted of applying cut-out engravings to a painted surface, subsequently coloured and coated with a sandarac-based varnish. Among the principal suppliers of these elements was the Remondini house of Bassano, which produced sheets with figures, landscapes and ornamental motifs intended for this type of decoration.
