Additional Information

The monogram represented is almost certainly that of Queen Maria Pia of Portugal (1847-1911), spouse of king D. Luis (1838-1889) and mother of king D. Carlos (1863-1908).
Teresa Maranhas refers in na article called A Colecção da Casa Leitão & Irmão no Acervo do Palácio Nacional da Ajuda a leather, gold and enamel cigarette case bearing the same monogram and date that belonged to the Queen and is still kept at Ajuda Palace (inv. 52116).
Once the present pin bears no marks and its case is also unsigned it is not possible to attribute it to Leitão & Irmão workshop although thats the most likely hypothesis.
