Additional Information
The Fitzhugh pattern derives its name from a service commissioned by Thomas Fitzhugh, a director of the British East India Company in Guangzhou (Canton) between 1786 and 1800. Produced in various forms and colours, this pattern was widely popular in the American market, with examples in pink and gilt enamel considered particularly rare. It is possible that this pair of plates belonged to a unique dinner service destined for the American market, previously part of the Garbisch collection, auctioned by Sotheby’s in 1980.
