Description

Indo-Portuguese silver of the 18th century
Silver filigree, of oval shape with scalloped frame, top with cross and basin with cover
Centre with Jesuit insignia (IHS at a sunburst) under a red doublet later applied
(wear signs, restorations to the cross and filigree)

Height: 12 cm

Additional Information

Portugal was the first country to expel the Jesuits of the entire continental territory and colonies, in 1759.
It is highly possible that for that reason the Jesuit insignia was covered by the red doublet in the second half of the 18th century
