This type of figure, characterised by prominent eyes, knotted eyebrows and smiling expressions, wearing colourful garments and in lively poses, are frequently interpreted as representations of foreigners, possibly from Central Asia or India. Similar examples are found in international collections, including the Medeiros e Almeida Museum, Lisbon.
