Additional Information

Note:

Compare a box of similar form and decoration, of larger size and incorporating the Buddhist swastika symbol within the central design, from the Quincy Chuang Collection, sold at Sotheby's on 25 November 2022, "China / 5000 Years", lot 324. The Sotheby's note highlights the intricate and symmetrical design of this type of box, reminiscent of Western Renaissance ornament, and further cites related examples of smaller size, including one from the Hatcher Cargo (dated 1643).
