Additional Information

This pair belongs to Worcester’s production during the Barr, Flight & Barr (1804–1813) and Flight, Barr & Barr (1813–1840) periods, regarded in the specialist literature, notably by Henry Sandon, as the technical apex of the manufactory.
The classical grisaille decoration, applied by bat printing, is characteristic of this phase and well suited to the precise transfer of neoclassical designs widely circulated in the early nineteenth century.
The raised “pearl” border is another distinctive feature, formed from small balls of clay applied individually by hand before glazing, creating the three-dimensional, refined effect associated with these productions.
Although this pair is unmarked, other examples with identical decoration are known stamped “BFB” and “FBB”, suggesting production around 1813, during the transition between the Barr, Flight & Barr and Flight, Barr & Barr periods.
