Additional Information

From the 1830s to the end of the 19th century, the Renaissance was a major source for cabinetmakers, goldsmiths, ceramists and glassmakers who were inspired by forms and ornamental models from the 15th and 16th centuries. The Renaissance manufacturing techniques, some forgotten, are given pride of place. Carved wood, painted enamel, ceramic life-casting, polychrome glass and mounted hard stones become technical challenges for artists who measure themselves against the old masters, using the industrial means of their time.

The famous Cardeilhac house distinguished itself during this period with its neo-Renaissance works, the set known as Louis XIII, its better known achievement. Renamed Renaissance after the company's take over by the Christofle brand, it was one of the most prestigious Cardeilhac special commissioned sets, remaining to this day one of the most sought-after by amateurs and by collectors
