Description

Carved wood, gilt and black-lacquered
Decorated in gold with garlands, scrolls and stylised foliate motifs
The sides painted with central floral arrangements and the front displaying the royal Bourbon coat of arms, consisting of a shield with three fleurs-de-lis, surmounted by a royal crown, flanked by open wings and encircled by the collar of the Order of Saint Michael
Interior lined with striped floral fabric; ceiling covered in shagreen
France, mid-18th century

Additional Information

Two closely related chaise à porteurs, also decorated with the royal Bourbon coat of arms, are preserved in the collection of the Château de Versailles, where they are identified as part of the Maison du Roi. Both are dated circa 1760 and are currently housed in the Musée des Carrosses de Versailles (inv. T 761 C.1 and T 761 C.2).
