Additional Information
Note:
The menuki covering this box are ornaments originally designed for Japanese sword mountings (koshirae). In their original function, they were applied to the hilt wrapping (tsuka), covering the retaining peg (mekugi) that secures the hilt to the blade. Over time, their role shifted from a primarily practical one to a largely decorative purpose, making them one of the key ornamental elements of the Japanese sword.
