Additional Information

Bibliography: SAVOY, Maria Gabriella of e PAPI, Stefano, "Jewellery of the House of Savoy", pp. 170 e 194.

Note: The house of Musy, founded in Turin in the early 18th century is one of the most famous and historic Italian jewelers. The patronage by the House of Savoy was official and constant since 1754 until the last Queen of Italy, Maria José (1906-2001). Musy created some of the most outstanding and famous jewels of the Savoys and a large number of decorations and insignias.

The provenance of this piece is not documented but the last Queen of Italy, Maria José, shows a Malta Order insignia absolutely similar to the one now offered for sale.
One of those photographs, shown here, was taken at the gala dinner offered at the wedding of her daughter Maria Pia, February 1955, in Cascais, Portugal during the Portuguese exile of the Italian Royal Family.
