The ceremonies celebrating the fourth centenary of the discovery of the maritime route to India were a mark in the Portuguese society in 1898, at this time the Neo-Manueline style emerged in strength in silverware and jewels, a fashion strongly promoted by Leitão & Irmão, who not only executed several important commemorative commissions that, at the time, became famous, but also commemorative editions for its clients, wich is the case of the piece now offered for sale.
