Standing figure wearing a rustic robe and carrying a staff on his back

The face at once jovial and contemplative, with a bald cranium, half-closed eyes with inset pupils, a moustache and short curly beard

The robe incorporates the natural knots and irregularities of the wood into the sculptural composition

On the reverse, a branch bearing leaves and fruit follows the contour of the figure

(dark patina, minor fissures and cavities consistent with age and the nature of the material; rectangular socket to the underside, suggesting an original stand, now missing)



中国，清代，十八/十九世纪，根雕罗汉立像，身披粗朴袈裟，背负杖枝，光顶半阖目，嵌睛留须，巧借木瘤天然纹理融入衣纹，背面枝叶果实顺势而生，包浆深沉古雅。
