Additional Information

Some authors attribute the services bearing this coat-of-arms to the Italian family Marini, a wealth family linked to the merchant navy. After David Howard and John Ayers opinion this coat-of-arms is depicted in Pietro Marini de Barnabita's Ex-Libris, who was a proeminent figure of the Marini family that lived in the mid-18th century. They argue also that although it is possible to find Portuguese coats-of-arms with the salient bull crest and with the coat exclusively bendy, it is unknown any coat-of-arms with the these two details together, therefore it is not possible to assign these services to a Portuguese family
On the opposite side Nuno de Castro points to the pillory of Atouguia da Baleia where the Ataíde arms are repesented alongside a bull and argues that services of this size must have served D. Luis Peregrino de Ataíde and his direct family
