Some authors attribute the services bearing this coat-of-arms to the Italian Marini family, a wealthy family connected to the merchant navy. According to David Howard and John Ayers, this coat- of-arms is depicted in Pietro Marini de Barnabitas Ex-Libris, who was a promient figure of the family that lived in the mid-18th century. Althought it is possible to find Portuguese coat-of-arms with the salient bull crest and with the coat exclusively bendy, it is unknown any coat-of-arms flanked by the two crests, considering the authors, therefore, not possible to assign these services to a Portuguese family.
