Chinese export porcelain
With circular pierced body, raised on tall foot and with two interlaced lateral handles
Decorated in underglaze blue with floral motifs, geometric friezes and auspicious objects; interior painted with river landscape and floral compositions
Domed pierced cover with moulded decoration at top and flower-shaped finial
Qing Dynasty, 18th/19th century
(minor restorations to body and cover finial; one handle broken and reglued)

Additional Information
A pair of chestnut baskets of identical form is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Helena Woolworth McCann collection), dated circa 1785. The literature suggests that this form may have been inspired by English creamware models from the 18th century.
