Additional Information

This study was conceived in the context of the research that Almada Negreiros carried out around the panels attributed to Nuno Gonçalves. Based on his investigations into geometry, number and geometric relationships, Almada Negreiros considers that the panels were originally designed for the north wall of the Founder's Chapel in the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, in Batalha. These panels would be part of an altarpiece set, composed by 15 boards, which would also include the "Ecce Homo" from the Museum of Ancient Art, once attributed to Nuno Gonçalves.
