Paris 1783-1784, by A.F. GARBE
French silver of openwork decoration with Bacchic attributes held by ribbons and framing beaded medallions. The gadrooned cover and body punctuated by friezes and beading. On 3 small ball feet. Old blue crystal liner.
Marked "Maison commune" at the base and inside cover, crowned "U" for Paris 1783-1784, "Charge" at the base and inside cover, two interlaced "Ls" for Paris 1782-1789, "Discharge" at the base and above cover, Profiled peasant's for Paris 1782-1786, later hallmarked at the base and above cover "1er coq" (Paris solid silver 1787-1809), later hallmarked at the base and above cover "Grosse Garantie Paris" 1798-1809, later hallmarked at the base and above cover "Minerve"

Antoine-Philippe GARBE, guaranteed by Jacques ROETTIERS, was approved as a Master in Paris in 1748. Evidence of his work is traceable until 1787, and some of his production can be seen at the Petit Palais, Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris and at the Metropolitan Museum
