A very rare preparatory drawing for the decorative scheme of a Queen D.Maria I carriage, depicting: "Amor à Pátria" (1), "Monstros que o Amor da Pátria atropela" (4 e 5) e "Génios do Amor da Pátria que precipitam outros monstros" (6)
Inscribed: "P.ª a carruagem da Rainha (?)" (for the Queen's carriage)
Signed and dated 1781

Additional Information


The missing half of the drawing, also signed and dated, was sold at PIASA auctioneers in Paris (26th March 2010 – lot 30), confirming that the original drawing was split by the artist himself. That PIASA sold section retains the numeric caption with the key for the identification of the numbered figures.
